How did you become a Test Man?
I cross trained off and on for about three years and applied for the job when it opened because it was what I wanted to do.
What’s the most rewarding part of your day?
Testing our network and providing successful results if we meet them. Also, I enjoy being in the field and seeing real time what our customers see every day.
What do you have in common with the Test Man in the commercials?
I wear glasses and travel everywhere testing our network.
Which traits make you a successful Test Man?
Integrity is at the heart of what I do. I give a true assessment of our network whether it is positive or not. We need to know our shortcomings so we can do something about giving our customers what they expect, which is good service.
What does “It’s the Network” mean to you?
Everything. The best way to sell our service is to have the network to back it up. I am proud to say that Verizon Wireless does everything it can to provide that network.
Why does Verizon Wireless need to test the network every day?
We test daily so we know how best to optimize the network as well as improve service where it needs to be. Once this is done, we need to verify that it is working as expected. The only way we can know if our service is the best is to test it regularly.
What is the most unique place you have visited to test the Verizon Wireless network?
On a dirt road, at the Lake Tahoe basin, and in the Sierra Nevada mountain range of Northern California. There are many unique places and that’s one of the many reasons why I like my job.
How does Verizon Wireless use the data you collect?
We use the data for a variety of purposes. Knowing where we need to improve service as well as how best to optimize it are just a couple.
What should consumers know about the Verizon Wireless network?
Customers should know that they can have confidence in our network because of all the effort we put into building it, testing it, and making sure calls are processing correctly. We truly never stop working for the customer.
What achievement/aspect of your job are you most proud of?
Of all the years working as the Test Man, I am most proud of continuing with a legacy of success on our project. I work with a highly competent team and we work well together. This makes working for Verizon Wireless fun and enjoyable.
