Favorite Verizon Wireless Service or Feature: Because I’m a typical man who doesn’t like asking for directions, VZ Navigator has been invaluable because it lets me find where I need to go without losing face.
How did you become a Test Man? I was working in applications development for Verizon Wireless’ customer service team, but I wanted to make the switch to network. This job seemed like a good opportunity to really learn the network.
What’s the most rewarding part of your day? It’s satisfying to know that you’re contributing to a world-class network and that customers reap those benefits because Verizon Wireless’ service is something they can count on.
What do you have in common with the Test Man in the commercials? Since I’m 6’3” and built like a linebacker, I really don’t have anything physically in common with the Test Man in the commercials. The way we’re alike, though, is that we both cover a lot of terrain in our effort to deliver the best product for customers.
Which traits make you a successful Test Man? Ability to analyze data on the spot to find potential problems and dogged persistence that won’t let me stop until all issues are corrected
What does “It’s the Network” mean to you? I cover a lot of territory that’s rural, and when I think about the network and what it means, I think about the rural customer base and the importance of Verizon Wireless coverage. I’m proud of our company investment that extends reliability from coast to coast.
Why does Verizon Wireless need to test the network every day? To continue to provide the best service to our customers
What is the most unique place you have visited to test the Verizon Wireless network? Bluefield, West Virginia - it’s a beautiful mountain town, in the middle of nowhere, and the people who live there are as hospitable as they can be. I love when my travels take me to Bluefield.
How does Verizon Wireless use the data you collect? The data I collect is reviewed by network engineers, who study reports on dropped calls and ineffective call attempts. Based on what the reports show, the engineers make decisions regarding where the network needs to be enhanced.
What should consumers know about the Verizon Wireless network? They should know that the test man in the commercials might have all the fame, but, behind the scenes, there are many test men and women working around the clock to ensure the reliability and quality customers have come to expect.
What achievement/aspect of your job are you most proud of? Because I’ve also worked in Verizon Wireless’ sales and customer service departments, I often receive calls from colleagues asking me to help them solve a specific network problem for a customer. It gives me great satisfaction to help resolve issues.
