How did you become a Test Man?
I became a Test Man by first learning how to support the network in the NRB (Network Repair Bureau) of Verizon Wireless. There it gave me a great foundation of how the wireless network works. I saw that as a stepping stone to getting in the field and applying my knowledge.

What’s the most rewarding part of your day?
The most rewarding part of the day I would have to say is being a part of Verizon Wireless… I know that sounds like a line, but it’s the truth. Also I get to see a lot of different areas of the state from farmland to major cities, from the mountains to the beach. It’s different every day. There is always a different situation or area that you are in. I enjoy every minute of it.

What do you have in common with the Test Man in the commercials?
We both say, “Can you hear me now?” LOL. But seriously, I am just as dedicated as he is to ensuring that our customers have the best experience, best coverage, best features, and best service anywhere. Yeah, he goes “on location” to some cool places, but the spots I visit aren’t too shabby. Bottom line is we both want the best for the customer, no matter where or what the customer situation is.

What are some of those “not too shabby” places you have visited to test the Verizon Wireless network?
The two spots I love the most among my test routes are along the Blue Ridge Parkway and Roanoke. The outline and scenery of the Blue Ridge Mountains is spectacular. And in Roanoke, I love its rich history, especially the Norfolk Western Railway, as I’m a railroad buff.

Which traits make you a successful test man?
Quick-learner; 10 years of telecom experience; Adaptability; quick troubleshooter.

What does “It’s the Network” mean to you?
For me, “It’s the Network,” implies that our network is in its own class at the top. Before I joined Verizon Wireless, I had a competitor’s service. Once I tried Verizon Wireless, it was hands-down the best that I have experienced. As a Test Man and former Network Support staffer, I always want to give my best to ensure that our network is “The Network”

Why does Verizon Wireless need to test the network every day?
We test the network everyday to ensure that we are the best and remain the best. The worst thing to my ears, when I tell people that I work for Verizon Wireless, is “I have poor reception.” I want to make sure I never hear those words.

How does Verizon Wireless use the data you collect?
Verizon Wireless uses the data I collect to improve coverage and call quality, as well as wireless data connectivity and transmission. By testing, we are always sending feedback. Also if a customer states that they are having trouble in a certain area, I try to get the information to the correct network group so that we can start on the improvements. When you want to stay the best, you must constantly raise the bar.

What should consumers know about the Verizon Wireless network?
Verizon Wireless consumers should know that we are always working for you. We monitor the network 24/7. If there are special events or natural disasters, we are there. Verizon Wireless will continue to strive to be the best.

What achievement/aspect of your job are you most proud of?
Although I’m just getting started as a Test Man, I am proud of being a part of the Virginia team. We constantly work to ensure that our data is correct and that it can be used. I am proud of being able to ramp up to speed in about a month and half. Visit me in about six months, and I will have a better answer for you.
